In 2005 the TEF presented its award to several organizations throughout Dane County. Congratulations to Bayview Foundation, Kennedy Heights Community Center, Lincoln Elementary School and The Simpson Street Free Press. Each organization recipient was reviewed based on their ability to provide technology education for the greater good of our community.
Bayview Foundation provides cultural enrichment and arts programming for youth and adults while promoting lifelong learning. The TEF’s donation will help to fund software to train these students in computer skills, web site development, digital photography and how to create a newsletter.
Kennedy Heights Community Center creates a support network for low to moderate income families. They increase available resources and programs to improve the lives of residents and to develop and present social, educational, recreational and cultural programs for children, youth and adults. Funding from the TEF will help them upgrade and improve their community technology center.
Lincoln Elementary School has 35% of its student population participating as English Language Learners. These students, the majority of whom speak Spanish, participate in bilingual classrooms in which subjects are taught in their first language and gradually transition to English. The TEF’s award will provide them with the necessary technology to help in their efforts to close the achievement gap between their English Language Leaner students and their English speaking peers.
The Simpson Street Free Press has evolved into one of Dane County’s most respected youth programs. Students are responsible for writing and publishing a newspaper that reaches thousands of readers across our community. TEF funds will support hardware and software purchases to help grow the capabilities available to the organization.
Did you know that 100% of proceeds from the Berbee Derby go to the Madison-based Technology Education Fund (TEF)? The annual Thanksgiving Day event has become a family tradition for many. Fun event for all ages and levels.
The Berbee Derby celebrated their 20 year anniversary this Thanksgiving — which was its final year of the annual event.
